Default 2017 Dragon Run Update & Questions!! ***Everyone Read & Reply***

Okay, I know alot of you have been asking/wondering about the 2017 Dragon Run. We had planned on having it announced WAAAAAY before now but it seems like we keep getting curve balls thrown at us.

The original plan was late September, we had everything ready to announce right after PITS, but when we first made those plans, that was when Mustang Week was still in July. Now that it has moved to September, we feel like its just too much to try and do the Dragon Run right after for those who want to go to both.

So we started looking at other dates, there is some potential in October, but then you compete with Foxtoberbest and dozens of other shows that seem to go on around then.

So we came up with the date of August 5th-7th. But then we ran into another problem, that is the same weekend as Miata's on the Dragon. I'm not worried about them being on the Dragon, we can work around them, BUT they have Fontana Village booked.

So this is what we came up with, what if we stay in Gatlinburg? It's an awesome town, plenty of stuff to walk to and drink at night. It opens up new roads for us(after all, its a Dragon run, but the dragon has always just played a small part in it), we could run the Smokeys, Foothills parkway to the dragon(PITS veterans know this road) plus there is a great road in Tennessee curvier than the dragon and way less popular we could run.

What do yall think about this?

Or we can regroup and try to pick another date in the late fall?

We could also stay in Pigeon Forge if people didn't want to deal with Gatlinburg, my only fear in Gatlinburg is we are gonna loose that "hang out in the parking lot" feel. I know I can get us a my rod run hotel and we can basically take it over if we want. Just don't wanna double up on a Pigeon Forge trip for people with PITS being there too.

Gatlinburg is a beautiful place to go as a family vacation but could be hard to organize a club function.

Have you thought of maybe renting a cabin the can fit 20 people or so? I was looking at them earlier and there are a ton of them with tons of bedrooms that can fit 20 or more people. Most of them are very nice with indoor pools, pool tables ect.

I say later when it's cooler and the fire pit can roar! Fontana is perfect, don't change that part!

FYI, I'm now heading up the Saleen Club of America Dragon Run and it's typically the first weekend in November.

Regardless...Fontana Village in the Fall is awesome!!

I can see both sides of this. Fontana and cool weather is terrific.......but spending a lot of time up there lately has definitely shown me there are other roads that are actually more fun to drive.

The skyway is OUTSTANDING. Hellbender is outstanding, and there's a ton of others.

Just pick a date in the fall and roll with it. If people want to go, they will go.

We have talked about that, but it almost gets too big and unenjoyable for both clubs.

Pending a couple of details, we should have something finalized this week.
